This live snake plant, also known as Ceylon bowstring hemp or devil’s tongue, exhibits an upright form of variegated sword-shaped leaves that taper to points. The leaves are a stripe-y mix of dark green and light gray-green. Native to Sri Lanka, this plant is difficult to kill and will survive drought or dimly lit environments. While it’s heralded for handling low-light spaces, you can absolutely place the plant in moderate- to bright-light spots. You can also grow it outside in sun to shade as long as temperatures are mostly on the mild to warm side. As lush, full, and tropical as the leaves look, snake plants thrive with very little water, making them great plants for beginners, forgetful gardeners, travelers, and plant parents who prefer a light-touch approach to plant parenting. Grows to 2 ft. to 3 ft. tall. Provide a well-draining soil mix designed for succulents. Only water when the soil is thoroughly dry. Hardy to USDA Zone 10/35F. Protect from frost.
